My blog experience

Imagen
Hello everyone! This is my last blog and I will write about this experience. Zorro culpeo ( Lycalopex culpaeus culpaeus ) This was the first time I had to blog for a subject. I found it fun to write about topics that interest me, and post pictures that I like, among other things. I also think it helped me to improve my English writing, as well as to understand English a little better.  Among the advantages of this modality, I highlight how adaptable it can be when learning. For example, it can help to learn a more technical language, on your own, through writing about a specific topic related to your career.  Among the disadvantages, I think there is the lack of feedback about writing mistakes, such as spelling, grammar or writing errors. In accordance with the above, as a suggestion I raise the post feedback. However, it would be too much work for one person, so I think it is necessary to have assistants in the field. Well, that was all. Thank you very much for reading me. I ...

My favorite subject this semester

Imagen
Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well. Today I’ll write about my favorite subject this semester. This subject is "Formulación y Evaluación de Proyectos de Conservación y Protección". The classes have two modalities; a theoretical one, in which we see the professor's presentation; and a practical one, in which we carry out an exercise of proposing some conservation measure for a given species (although with certain variations from each other).  The topics of the course are varied, but as you can imagine, always linked to the conservation of species. We have dealt with what actions or conditions lead species to extinction, what can be done to prevent it and what can be done to rescue a species from this end, among others.  In this course I have learned about different behaviors of different species. Also about measures that prevent damage to flora and fauna. And, in general, what are the different factors and elements to consider when proposing and carrying out a projec...

iNaturalist

Imagen
Hi everybody, today's post is about a website related to my carreer (Forestry engineering). The one that I choose is iNaturalist (https://inaturalist.mma.gob.cl/) wich have an app for smartphones too. This website is very interesting. Here you can create it an account and upload different records (in photos and/or audios) about plants, birds, mammals, reptiles, fungis, insects, lichens, mosses, etc. The idea is that you can provide the identification (in example, the specie), ubication and date of the register, and other people of the community will confirm or deny your record. However, if you don't know the species identification, you also can upload it and the community will help you identify it. This is a very usefull tool, because when two or more persons confirm your identification, the registry achieves research grade, which means that it is truthful and can be used eventually. iNaturalist works as a social network, therefore, you can follow other people's profiles an...

My Favorite Photo

Imagen
Hi everybody! I hope you all are OK. Today's post is about one of my favorite photos. This photo was captured by my friend Carlos. It shows a Lagarto Nítido ( Liolaemus nitidus ). It was taken at 18th October of 2020, in the Santuario de la Naturaleza Quebrada de la Plata, ubicated in Maipú, Región Metropolitana, Chile. I really like this photo because it was the first encounter with this specie and the first specie different to all others I was see (like Liolaemus tenuis, Liolaemus fuscus and Liolaemus lemniscatus ). In adittion, by this time, I was discover the world of reptils and I has bougth my first reptile field guide, so in this adventure one of my goals was to discover new reptile species.  The encounter was unexpected, we were walking back to our homes, still in the Sanctuary, and suddenly we saw this lizard on a rock. We were very excited, we took out our cell phones that had very low battery and we got this picture.  We spent about 15 minutes looking at the lizard....

About Parque Mapocho El Trebal

Imagen
Hi everybody, today's theme is free, so i want to write about Parque Mapocho el Trebal. This place isn't really a park but maybe will be soon. It's ubicated in the district of Maipú, Región Metropolitana. It's an area composed by a range of hills with sclerophyllus vegetation, a lagoon, the Mapocho river and a Willow Forest.  This place is very visited by so many people, some go for apreciatte nature (like me) and another go to enjoy the place but making other actions like playing music and drinking alcohol, for example. All of this activities are aceptable but some people leave his trash on the place, and this is not good. Unfortunately this situation is frequent and the park is getting dirtier and dirtier. In adittion, people also practice motocross on the hills, that cause soil erotion, noise pollution and scares away wildlife. However, a group of people that have interested by the place and want to protect it is working for the park. In this regard, the last friday ...

Why Forestry engineering?

Imagen
Hello everybody, I hope you are well. Today I'll write about why I choose to study forestry engineering. Almost for always I have been very intersted by nature and wildlife. When I was a child, I used to watch wildlife and science documentary. Because that, I wanted to be a scientist or something similar in the future.  When I had to choose a career to study I only thought in one related to natural sciences. At that moment I only knew about environmental engineering, but this career was not in the Universidad de Chile, wich was the university that i wanted to enter. Therefore, I looked for a similar career in that university and I discover forestry engineering. After reading more about the career, I decided to postulate and I finally was acepted. Currently, I'm in ninth semester. I have learn very much about environmental, ecology, flora and fauna, among others, and I keep learning constantly.  About my dream job, I think on one that allow me to go to differents places like fo...

Simple but Great

Imagen
Hi everybody. Today i'll write about a technology device that i consider as one of my favorites on this pandemic.    I refeer to my binocular. I got it the past christmas as a gift from my mom and dad. I use it each time when i go to a natural (or not) place to watch birds, mammals and plants. I like it so much, because allow me to see and indentify birds and mammals, specially, to those that are out of my vision, also, i use it to take photos with my cell phone 'cause i don´t have a camera and i really like to take record of the different species that i see and discover.  If i hadn't my binocular, i think that would be so difficult to see and identify most of the birds that i watch, and my excurssions wouldn't be so funny like they are. Sometimes i feel as a preybird with an super eye (like an eagle or an owl) watching and seeking for birds (but without kill em) hahahahaha. Left picture: Harris's hawk ( Parabuteo unicinctus ). Right picture: Black-chested Buzzars-E...
