My favorite subject this semester

Imagen
Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well. Today I’ll write about my favorite subject this semester. This subject is "Formulación y Evaluación de Proyectos de Conservación y Protección". The classes have two modalities; a theoretical one, in which we see the professor's presentation; and a practical one, in which we carry out an exercise of proposing some conservation measure for a given species (although with certain variations from each other).  The topics of the course are varied, but as you can imagine, always linked to the conservation of species. We have dealt with what actions or conditions lead species to extinction, what can be done to prevent it and what can be done to rescue a species from this end, among others.  In this course I have learned about different behaviors of different species. Also about measures that prevent damage to flora and fauna. And, in general, what are the different factors and elements to consider when proposing and carrying out a projec...

iNaturalist

Imagen
Hi everybody, today's post is about a website related to my carreer (Forestry engineering). The one that I choose is iNaturalist (https://inaturalist.mma.gob.cl/) wich have an app for smartphones too. This website is very interesting. Here you can create it an account and upload different records (in photos and/or audios) about plants, birds, mammals, reptiles, fungis, insects, lichens, mosses, etc. The idea is that you can provide the identification (in example, the specie), ubication and date of the register, and other people of the community will confirm or deny your record. However, if you don't know the species identification, you also can upload it and the community will help you identify it. This is a very usefull tool, because when two or more persons confirm your identification, the registry achieves research grade, which means that it is truthful and can be used eventually. iNaturalist works as a social network, therefore, you can follow other people's profiles an...

My Favorite Photo

Imagen
Hi everybody! I hope you all are OK. Today's post is about one of my favorite photos. This photo was captured by my friend Carlos. It shows a Lagarto Nítido ( Liolaemus nitidus ). It was taken at 18th October of 2020, in the Santuario de la Naturaleza Quebrada de la Plata, ubicated in Maipú, Región Metropolitana, Chile. I really like this photo because it was the first encounter with this specie and the first specie different to all others I was see (like Liolaemus tenuis, Liolaemus fuscus and Liolaemus lemniscatus ). In adittion, by this time, I was discover the world of reptils and I has bougth my first reptile field guide, so in this adventure one of my goals was to discover new reptile species.  The encounter was unexpected, we were walking back to our homes, still in the Sanctuary, and suddenly we saw this lizard on a rock. We were very excited, we took out our cell phones that had very low battery and we got this picture.  We spent about 15 minutes looking at the lizard....
