About Parque Mapocho El Trebal

Hi everybody, today's theme is free, so i want to write about Parque Mapocho el Trebal.

This place isn't really a park but maybe will be soon. It's ubicated in the district of Maipú, Región Metropolitana. It's an area composed by a range of hills with sclerophyllus vegetation, a lagoon, the Mapocho river and a Willow Forest.

This place is very visited by so many people, some go for apreciatte nature (like me) and another go to enjoy the place but making other actions like playing music and drinking alcohol, for example. All of this activities are aceptable but some people leave his trash on the place, and this is not good. Unfortunately this situation is frequent and the park is getting dirtier and dirtier. In adittion, people also practice motocross on the hills, that cause soil erotion, noise pollution and scares away wildlife.

However, a group of people that have interested by the place and want to protect it is working for the park. In this regard, the last friday have occurs the first community cleaning.

Do I think that this place can be a park in the future? -Of course, the place have a great potential to be a protected area.

Why this place should be protected?  -Because the area contains scleropyhllus shrublands and forest, with so many native and endemic species of Chile. In adittion, the lagoon is home to many species of birds. And has species for discover yet.

How I think that can we resolve the trash problem? -This is a great problem, but isn't impossible to resolve. I believe that people need to be educated environmentally, to protect the site as a whole.

How I think thar can we resolve the motocross problem? -This is also a serious problem and is more complicated to resolve because the people who practice it will probably not want to stop practicing in the place. However, the solution is also the environmental education to generate a importance sense of the place and visibilate the impacts of the motocross.

Do I think that in the future more people want to protect the place? -Sure! As i said before, the park is very visited and if all these people become aware of the benefits that the park gives us, they will surely want to protect it.

What are some of the species that can be seen at the park? -In the hills you can watch Águila chilena (Geranoaetus melanoleucus australis), Tenca (Mimus thenca), Pequén (Athene cunicularia), Guayacán (Porlieria chilensis), Quillay (Quilaja saponaria), Lagarto nítido (Liolaemus nitidus)  and Quisco (Echinopsis chiloensis chiloensis), among others. In the lagoon you can watch Huala (Podiceps major), Tagua común (Fulica armillata) and Garza cuca (Ardea cocoi), among others. And in the Willow Forest you can watch Carpinterito (Dryobates lignarius), Picaflor chico (Sephanoides sephanoides) and Quique (Galictis cuja), among others.

Thank you for reading me, I hope you liked it!
